It’s that most exciting of times in Hollywood once more…the run up to the 2012 Academy Awards. The countdown to the most glittering night in the Hollywood calendar has begun with the announcement of this year’s Oscar nominations. Leading the pack this year is Martin Scorsese’s family adventure film “Hugo” with 11nominations in total, including nods for Best Picture and Best Director. Following close behind with 11 Academy Award nominations is black and white film “The Artist”, an homage to the golden days of the silent screen.
Individuals singled out for Best Actor awards include Hollywood heavy weights Brad Pitt (for Moneyball) and George Clooney (for The Descendents.) The Best Actress award seems likely to come down to a battle between the steely Margaret Thatcher (played by Meryl Streep) and the sultry Marilyn Monroe (played by Michelle Williams.) Streep is no stranger to Oscar nods, with an amazing record of 16 nominations throughout her acting career so far and a previous Best Actress Oscar win in 1982 for the drama Sophie’s Choice.
We’ll need to wait until the stars come out in force for the big award ceremony on the 26th February to find out who the big Oscar winners will be this year.
