For most of us, Mondays are not exactly the most joyful day of the week. Whether you’re still recovering from the excesses of the weekend or simply dreading the thought of the working week stretching out ahead of you indeterminably, few of us tend to leap out of bed on Monday mornings full of the joys of spring. Add in the gloomy, cold darkness of January mornings and you could be forgiven for thinking that Mondays are more miserable than merry.
So, given all of these facts, I was equal parts amazed and interested to read that apparently, according to research from Manchester Metropolitan University, yesterday (Monday 30st January) was the happiest Monday of the year. Why should this be so? Well, it seems that a combination of relief at finally being at the end of the long, bleak month of January, happiness at receiving that all important, post-Christmas pay cheque and excitement as we look forward to booking our summer holiday all combine to ensure that the we are seriously happy bunnies.
